Telling my story of then as I’m living my story of now

Consider a Gift – We have work to do

Consider a Gift – We have work to do

Dear Fellow Sojourners, As we approach the end of 2016 and look forward to all that 2017 has in store, I just wanted to take a moment to say thanks. Your support and encouragement have made this an unforgettable year.      I am also asking you consider offering a final gift to Sophia Sojourn for 2016.  Immediate needs include travel expenses, book inventory, upcoming renewals of web sites, etc. Any gift of any amount will help offset those costs….

7 Things I’m Learning From a Pastor Who Cared Enough to Learn 7 Things About Me

7 Things I’m Learning From a Pastor Who Cared Enough to Learn 7 Things About Me

Note: I’ve been holding off posting this. A question has been eating at me in light of our current cultural climate here in the US: Is this really the time for a white person to honor and elevate other white people? Left with that criteria alone, I kept coming up with a resounding “No”! I actually tried to remove the ethnic labels completely, but it watered down my actual experience. This article isn’t just about ethnicity, it is about recognizing my…

The Beauty Behind Gender

The Beauty Behind Gender

Today is Intersex Awareness Day. For most people in the world that’s a nice side note. Like seeing a car rally with a few random people driving a make and model of a car you’ve never seen before. It’s interesting and novel, but not incredibly relevant to you. For some of us, it’s a day to reflect on a piece of reality that lies beneath the very foundation of our existence. We are incredibly aware of the 5 biological markers…

A Rocking Fundraiser!!

A Rocking Fundraiser!!

All through my life, my parents have been a valuable part of my journey. That didn’t change when I began this process of affirmation. While we don’t agree on many things – from politics to theology – we are able to focus on the things we still share. Things like a love of life, compassion, and desire to grow in our passion for God and all that is God’s. We can agree without question that “All God’s Children Have a…

Upgrades

Upgrades

Sophia Sojourn is going to be experiencing some much needed upgrades in the comings days. There may be some outages. In which case you can’t read this post and it’s a moot point. But if you’re reading this now and you come back later – you may have issues. OR – in an alternate universe the upgrade will go smoothly and without a bug or a hitch and you will never know the difference. Here’s hoping.

Blog & Book's After School Special #2

Blog & Book's After School Special #2

Blog: Well, hello there, Book! Book: Oh, hi blog. I didn’t see you there. Blog: What’s got your spine sagging tonight – oh wait, you don’t have a spine yet, HA! Book: Ha, ha – very humorous. Or as you would say “humerous” with your lack of editing and all. Blog: Ok, ok – you’ve made your point. What are you doing out here anyway? Book: I actually came, I mean – I want to – well – I…

Publishing "Shattering Masks"

Publishing "Shattering Masks"

I have a story to tell. It’s one of hurt, struggle, faith, family and affirmation. The reason I want to tell it is that I know there are still so many out there dying in the shadows who will relate to my journey and hopefully, with a little encouragement, step into the light. I know that there are also families, pastors, civic leaders, law makers and entire communities wrestling with this issue of what to do with people who are not like themselves….

Starting "Pre-Sales" of the new Book!!!

Starting "Pre-Sales" of the new Book!!!

The book in now on its way to the capable of hands of editors who will be switching my crossed “i”s and dotted “t”s around. From this point on we are on a good pace for my target release date right around the first of the year. After writing it (and reading it) I stepped away form my working title and given the project a new name: “Shattering Masks” Why did I write the book? Other than the overwhelming compulsion…

Blog and Book, the "After School Special"

So I was very busy not sleeping just now and noticed this going on in my head: Book: Hi, Blog! Blog: Hi, Book. What are you doing here? Book: Oh, just thought I’d take a walk and see what’s going on. Blog: Ok, you’ve seen it. Now go back to the hard drive or hang out in a cloud, wherever you are supposed to be. Book: In a minute – so these are the people that are going to read…
